The original Mission Raceway Park opened in 1965 after 5-6 years of construction activity. Prior to its opening, drag racing had occured at Abbotsford Airport from 1952 until 1957, when the RCAF took over the facility.
This facility operated until 1978, with a motocross track added in 1973. The facility was shut down at the start of an extended fiasco involving the construction of an industrial park and a move to another site. After an extended bout with various Governmental organizations and the Canadian legal system, a new facility finally opened in 1992, incorporating the modern suite of tracks (1/4 mile drag strip, road course, and motocross track.)
