The first track on this site was a flat 1/2 mile dirt oval at the Jenners Fairgrounds, which opened around 1927. This track operated through 1941, resuming after WWII in 1946 and running until 1948 (possibly into the early 50's depending on whose dates you believe). The 1/2 mile oval operated again briefly in 1957-1959 according to America's Speedways. A 1/4 mile dirt oval was built in 1953 inside the 1/2 mile oval which apparently lasted into the 60s. The 1/2 mile oval was revived again in the mid-60s, but wasn't really satisfactory until 1967 (America's Speedways suggests that the mid-60s revival was really a 1/3 mile track.) The 1/2 mile oval was restored to proper operating condition in a major 1967 modernization, reopening on June 15th 1968. It ran until until 1985, when it was paved. The paved track opened in 1987. A 1/5 mile paved oval w/figure 8 operated in 1994 only.
