Offutt Air Force Base

Offutt Air Force Base was a 3.0-mile airport course on the runways and apron of the famed Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Bellevue, NE, ten miles south of Omaha. SCCA National races were run there in the 1950s.

Historical Note

General Curtis E. LeMay, commander of Strategic Air Command and a prime mover in the organization of the event, dropped the green flag for the first race (on July 5, 1953), which was won by E. Tom Newcomer, a well-known `character' in the Kansas City racing community.
