Oxford speedway opened as a 1/2 mile dirt oval in May of 1950. It was converted to a 1/3 mile asphalt oval in 1961. In 1969, an NHRA dragstrip was built next door. Widening of the backstretch in 1992 changed the official length to 3/8 mile.
