Auto racing began at the Cumberland Fairgrounds in 1966. The track operated as the Cumberland Raceway at that time, and continued with that name until 1999, with a break from 1982 to 1990 when no racing took place. In 2000, the track changed promotors, and was renamed "The Rock". For 2003, the promotor changed again, and the name became the current "The Rock -- Allegany County Speedway".
