Maryland International Raceway opened in 1966, operating under NASCAR sanction with the name St. Mary's Dragway. In 1968, the track changed owners and name, the latter to Budds Creek Raceway. In 1972, under new owners, the track name was changed to the current Maryland International Dragway. Somewhere between the opening and 1991, the track changed to NHRA sanction.
NHRA sanction lasted until 1991; for 1992 the track switched to the current IHRA sanction.
During the 1960s apparently a paved road course was in service.
