PIR opened on March 3rd, 1964. NASCAR first raced there in 1988.
The original road course (used 4/15/64-1990) was a 2.75 mile outfield course which is still visible in both the TerraServer and Google images. The second road course was first used in 1991 and was removed in 2012 as part of a track improvement project.
The dragstrip used the long straight of the outfield road course. It has received little or no use since the early 80s.
