Time Trials and Hill Climbs are both long standing traditions in Motorsports. Hill Climbs have been run for a very long time in the United States: USAC sanctions the famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb; various vintage bodies sanction their own events, and the SCCA has active Hill Climb series in a number of parts in the country.
Time Trials are run regularly both as qualifying exercises by Racing bodies like NASCAR and the IRL, and as ends in and of themselves by both the SCCA and various marque and independent clubs.
