Grand-Am sanctions sports car racing at various road racing venues in North America, including the legendary 24 hours of Daytona. Both prototype and GT classes exist, running together in the long races and otherwise traveling the country separately to various venues.
Grand-Am was established in 1999 in the aftermath of a difficult period in North American Sports Car racing. IMSA had passed through some difficult times and the SCCA had briefly experimented with a revival of the USRRC and Can-Am names in their own pro series.
