Welcome to the relaunch of the North American Motorsports Journal!
When I started it up a few years ago, I didn't take into consideration the effort required to produce a monthly magazine, even a small, electronically published one. In fact, maintaining this web site even proved to be excessive, considering my day jobs at a succession of internet startups of varying degrees of sucess, and the early years of raising my daughter (now nearly 4 years old as I write this.) Events in other parts of my life effectively pushed the Journal and the North American Motorsports Pages onto the shelf, due to lack of time.
Well, it's time to try it again, but this time I'm going to be smarter about it. The thing is, the killer was the work involved in assembling complete issues before launching them. Since this is electronic media, that was never really necessary.
So the new format will work like this. As submissions arrive, I'll publish them more-or-less immediately, at the end of the month, I'll close the issue, and move on to the next one. I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but it's the only way that the Journal is going to get restarted.
We start Volume 2, Issue 1 with an excerpt from Lotus Racing Cars from Sutton Publishing. It was the offer of the excerpt by Sutton that led to the relaunch, actually. They made their generous offer (well, they want to publicize their books and sell them, so there is a modicum of self-interest there), leading me to consider how to go about publishing the excerpts on the site. Thus, the Journal is to be relaunched. I don't know what else is coming along this month; Volume 2 Number 1 may end up being a little thin. But that's ok...
